Welcome to our 32nd Football Academy coaching session of the season.
There are only 4 football coaching sessions left before we break for the winter. Going by last Saturdays weather conditions, the break cannot come soon enough. Last Sat only our U7 Boys took part in coaching as the torrential rain curtailed all games from being played and other coaching from proceeding.
The hurling nursery coaches request that I remind all the Football Academy newsletter readers that their coaching starts at 10.30 and finishes at 11.15 each Saturday.
Tomorrow Sunday 9th Oct all members are invited to the club for the unveiling of a wall plaque to honour the outstanding contribution made by Tommy O'Hanlon (snr) to Sarsfields throughout his life. The unveiling starts at 12.45. This will be followed by a brunch for the Sarsfields Senior football winning team of 1986 in the clubhouse before they are honoured at half time during the County Senior Football Final in St Conleths Park. After the county final the team will reassemble in the Club and be joined by the Sarsfield minor football winning team of the same year for a reunion. A tribute to the late Michael Gerard Buckley and the late Dermot Earley who both played on that day will be held at 6.30pm. Music by Paddy Kelly will commence at 8pm. Paddy played the music in the club in 1986, the night the winning Senior & Minor teams celebrated a unique championship double.
Club Finances
The request continues to support your weekly Club lotto and all fundraising events to the end of the year. We all have a duty of care to protect our Club and help it meet its substantial financial commitments. Remember you can register to play the lotto by registering on the Club website. This will ensure your lotto punt remains live throughout the year. We request all academy players continue to purchase or sell one ticket per week over the remaining four weeks. Tickets are only €2 each. Your support in this matter is crucial. Pat Black at the Academy Lotto desk can take your ticket and €2 each Saturday morning. Results are posted on the Club notice board in the bar.
Club Fashion Show – Fri 21st Oct at 8pm:
The Club Fashion show takes place on Friday week, so if you haven’t yet purchased your tickets, you’d better hurry! The show will showcase clothes from the top fashion shops in Newbridge who will display their Autumn/Winter Collection. The night will start at 8pm with a complimentary cheese and wine reception followed by an evening of fashion. Tickets are €10 each and are on sale from the Club House bar each Saturday morning or by calling Regina Byrne on 086 839 9354. The event is open to members and non members so we encourage you to inform and bring your neighbours, family & friends along.
Floodlight Appeal:
The Club is delighted to inform you that after over 6 months of planning and fundraising, your Club has purchased floodlights for the bottom two training pitches this week. It is now proposed that these lights will be up and running in January 2012. However, to do this your Club still needs to raise €20,000 for ancillary work such as purchasing a generator and civil engineering work. The Floodlight committee intend to run a final fundraiser early in the New Year to raise most of this money, but your Club is still looking for Club members to contribute to this worthy initiative, no matter how big or small. Newbridge Credit Union is still offering loans to Club members who wish to support this crucial appeal. For further details on the floodlight initiative, please contact Padraig Brennan on 087 231 3458 or padraig.brennan@defenceforces.ie.

More Volunteers urgently required!!
We continuously need more coaches, administrators & volunteers to help keep your Club progressing. We have a myriad of skills amongst our members and we need to utilise and embrace this expertise. Please let me know if you are willing to volunteer for any element of our operations. We urgently require parents to help coach our teams. I promise you that you will find it very fulfilling and you will become an integral part of the community. Please let myself or one of the other coaches know if you are interested.
Over 35’s Fathers team:
Still going! If you still want to get involved, come down to the Club (bottom pitch) next Tuesday and Thursday at 7.45pm and try it out. It is a great way to get fit, shed those beer bellies and amalgamate old and new members of the Club. You can contact Aidan Sharkey at (087 743 7005 or aidan@sharkey.ie) for any further information.
Have a great week and please keep recruiting new members, selling the Club to friends, family and neighbours. Don’t forget to sell or buy your lotto tickets, get you tickets for the Fashion show, the Charity show, and sponsor the floodlight appeal and please put your name forward to volunteer.
Many Thanks:
